Dyersburg falls to Brighton after late Cardinal flurry

Dyersburg dropped to 0-2 on the season on Friday night as the Trojans took the lead in the second half before a pair of late Cardinal scores led to a 32-28 loss at Brighton in non-region action.

A turning point in the game came at the end of the second quarter. With the Trojans trailing 20-14 in the closing seconds of the first half, Brighton was able to stop the black and gold on a third-and-1 before a Cardinal penalty put the ball on the half-yard line. But, the Trojans were shut out of the end zone when Brighton’s defense stopped Dyersburg on the ground to preserve the six-point halftime lead.

The Trojans were able to get on the board in the fourth quarter as a touchdown pass from Logston Morgan to Ty Seaton – the duo’s second of the night – tied the game at 20. The extra point put the Trojans on top 21-20.

Later in the frame, an Eric Funderburk interception return for a touchdown put Dyersburg on the board again. The extra point extended the lead to 28-20.

But, Brighton tacked on two late touchdowns to take the lead and escape with the upset win over the Trojans.

Demond Dillard led the way on the ground for the Trojans, carrying the ball 14 times for 49 yards. Through the air, Morgan was 6-of-12 for 148 yards and two touchdowns. Seaton caught six passes for two touchdowns in the loss.

Dyersburg returns to action on Friday when the Trojans host Camden Central in their home opener at 7 p.m. at J.C. Sawyers Stadium.
