Lake County falls to St. Benedict in Saturday action

The Lake County Falcons took an early lead on Saturday afternoon in a non-region football tilt, but the St. Benedict Eagles answered with six straight touchdowns over the rest of the game to take a 38-7 win over the green and gold in Tiptonville.

The Falcon defense made a big play on the opening Eagle drive. On third down, the Eagles attempted a pass only to have the ball find its way into the hands of Falcon defender Cade Lanier, who returned the ball about 20 yards for the touchdown. Landon Crockett added the extra point to give Lake County a 7-0 lead with 10:57 left in the first quarter.

The Eagles got a big answer thanks to a 67-yard run by Najja Williams set St. Benedict up with a first-and-goal from the 7-yard line. From there, it took a couple plays before Williams capped off the drive with a two-yard run. The extra point failed, leaving Lake County on top 7-6 with 9:42 left in the quarter.


Lake County looked poised to set itself up for a responding score as Randy Demo returned the ensuing kick deep into Eagle territory. However, a block in the back negated most of the return. The penalty seemed to halt the Falcons' momentum as Lake County was forced to punt. The Falcons luck continued to sour as the ensuing punt was blocked with the Eagles recovering the loose ball inside the 10-yard line.

With the ball at the 9-yard line, the Eagles capped off a short drive with a 13-yard touchdown run by Brock Green touchdown run. The two-point attempt failed but St. Benedict took a 12-7 lead with 5:48 left in the opening quarter.

Despite a pair of penalties on the ensuing kickoff, the Falcons next drive stalled at midfield before Lake County turned the ball over on downs. The Eagles took advantage with a 59-yard touchdown pass by Jensen Lausterer. The extra point failed as the Eagles took an 18-7 lead with 27 seconds left in the quarter.

Lake County saw three possessions end during the second quarter without getting on the scoreboard. The Falcons punted twice and turned the ball over on downs the other time. Midway through the second quarter, St. Benedict added a rushing touchdown to take a 24-7 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Falcon offense continued to struggle while St. Bendict added two more scores to cap off a 38-0 run after Lake County’s opening score to seal the win.

Lake County returns to action on Friday when the Falcons celebrate Homecoming 2026 at 7 p.m. against Ripley.
