Lake County heads into bye after loss to Ripley

The Lake County football team fell to 0-3 on the season on Friday night as the Falcons fell 44-13 to Ripley as the Tigers spoiled the green and gold’s 2026 Football Homecoming to send the Falcons into next week’s bye week.

After trailing 3-0 following a low-scoring first quarter ended by a Tiger field goal, Lake County got on the board with a seven-yard touchdown run by Cade Lanier. The extra point from Landon Crockett was good, putting Lake County on top 7-3 with 8:19 left in the half.


Ripley was able to drive down the field to retake the lead but the Falcons fought back in the waning moments of the first half. Facing a third-and-10 at the Ripley 41-yard line, Lanier scrambled then broke free for a 41-yard touchdown run down the Ripley sideline. The extra point failed, leaving Lake County ahead 13-10 with 4:42 left in the half.

But, the Tigers retook the lead with a touchdown with just about a minute left the half. Then, on the ensuing Falcon drive, an interception ended the Lake County possession with 37 seconds left in the half. Ripley struck quickly, as Davarius Pearson broke free for a 70-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion put the Tigers on top 24-13 at the half.

Ripley then scored 20 unanswered points in the second half to secure the win.

All three Falcon loss have been outside of Region 7-A and six of the final seven games are region games.

Lake County will have its bye week in Week 4 and will return to action on Sept. 18 when the Falcons travel to Gleason at 7 p.m.
