Lake County volleyball avenges loss to CCA in straight sets

After dropping a three-set decision earlier in the season in Dyersburg, Lake County’s volleyball team gained a measure of revenge on Thursday night at home, defeating Christ Classical Academy in straight sets to split the home-and-home season series with the Lady Eagles in Tiptonville.

Lake County fell behind 3-0 early but got the ball back and put Cara Beth Bates on the line. After multiple aces, the Lady Falcons took a 6-3 lead. The Falcons built a 13-6 lead after a Lilly Prince block but CCA was able to keep it close. The Lady Eagles cut it to 15-12 later in the set before Lake County outscored CCA 10-5 to take the opening set 25-17.


CCA took a quick lead for the second straight set but, again, Lake County battled back with aces from Bates. This time the Lady Falcons scored four straight points before the Lady Eagles were able to answer. With Bryleigh Walls on the line, Lake County built a 15-4 lead before CCA finally stopped the scoring spree by the green and gold.  The Lady Eagles battled back to cut the Lake County lead to 16-11 before a strong finish led to a 25-18 Lady Falcon win in the second set.

The same trend continued into the final set as CCA took an early lead only to have Lake County answer with three straight points with Bates on the line. Lake County held much of the momentum through the first part of the set, taking a 10-3 lead early. The Lady Eagles rallied to cut the Lady Falcon lead to 13-10 but Lake County had an answer. The green and gold outscored CCA 12-6 down the stretch to secure the third-set win and seal the match sweep.

Statistically, Wells had nine aces and a pair of kills. Bates had 11 aces, four kills and a handful of assists. Renesemee Harrell had four aces. Presley Eddlemon, Braylee Mays and Alex Body had a few digs each. Also, Lea Hopper and Lilly Prince had strong showing on the net with a few kills each.

The Lady Falcons return to action on Monday when Lake County hosts Peabody at 6 p.m.
