  Time to Buckle Up Tennessee's players have returned from spring break and it is time to get drills underway. This is the unofficial start to the 2026 football season and UT has several new additions to both the staff and the roster this year. On the defensive side of the ball, the staff was overhauled and the new coaches then recruited transfers that they either coached or were familiar with from the past couple of seasons. Some fans are saying that this is a crucial spring and season for head coach Josh Heupel. Yes, it is important but crucial might be too strong an adjective to apply. Obviously Heupel's main focus over the next five weeks will be to locate his next field general and establish that quarterback as the player that will lead the offense this fall. Other work in progress will be to locate the starters on the right side of the offensive line, the rotation at wide receiver and determine the best option for the top backup at running back.   Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports Coming off their first loss of the season on Tuesday at Tipton-Rosemark Academy in a one-run setback, the Choctaws made sure offense would not be the reason for a defeat on Thursday at home against Jackson Christian School. Dyer County’s softball team made short work of the Lady Eagles, accumulating 15 hits including a quartet of home runs in the orange and white’s 15-0 win in Newbern. Not to be outdone, Choctaw pitchers Rylee Key and Molly Kate Woody combined for a four-inning no-hitter in the mercy-rule win. The Choctaws got on the board in the bottom of the first after opening the game with a 1-2-3 inning on defense. A one-out double by Emma Wray scored a run to get Dyer County on the board. Pitcher Rylee Key helped her own cause with a one-out double to put the Choctaws up 2-0 after one inning.   Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports Though Dyersburg saw their halftime lead slip away during a White County second-half run, the Lady Trojans showed their poise of being at the TSSAA Class 3A State Tournament for four straight seasons, answering with big performances in the late third and fourth quarters to defeat the Warriorettes 54-45 for their second Class 3A State Title in three seasons. Led by Class 3A Miss Basketball Finalist Chelby Jordan, Dyersburg jumped out to an early lead on the strength of three jumpers from Jordan to take a 6-0 advantage less than two minutes into the game. White County battled back with an 8-2 run to tie the game after a Laklyn Grasty bucket with 1:18 left in the quarter. Dyersburg answered late after a defensive stop with a Kaliyah Lewis bucket with ten seconds left to put the Lady Trojans up 10-8 after one quarter.   Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Greenfield’s quest for a second straight TSSAA Class A State Championship came up just short on Friday evening in the final semifinal game of the day as the Lady ’Jackets fell 46-37 to Richland in the state semifinals in the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. “I knew coming into the game, they were going to have a lot help side on these two,” Greenfield Head Coach Tori Liggett said, referring to Rayana Fisher and Ella Porter. “They were going to make our less experienced players, in that big moment, handle the ball and try to make something happen offensively. “I think we kind of settled in the first half for shots that we should have taken to the rim. Which happens. Great game plan.
