  Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports Trailing by one with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Dyer County was able to get a big hit from senior Jake Stanley as the Choctaws advanced in the District 13-3A Tournament on Saturday with a 5-4 win over Dyersburg at Crockett County High School in Alamo. The Game was tied at 3-3 going into the top of the sixth inning. Pinch hitter Aiden Chandler was hit by a pitch then Evan Thompson bunted his way on with a single. A flyout followed then Alex Page grounded into a fielder’s choice to give the Trojans runners at first and third with two outs. Junior Will Leonard followed with a long double to right to give the black and gold the lead with runners at second and third.   Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports The Dyer County softball team advanced to the District 13-3A Championship Game coming up on Monday night with a 6-3 win over Crockett County on Saturday afternoon on the Lady Cavaliers home field in Alamo. After a scoreless first inning, the Choctaws got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the second. Back-to-back singles to lead off the inning from Emma Wray and Evie Rogers looked in danger of being wasted as the Lady Cavaliers retired the next two batters. Junior Natalie Armstrong came through in the clutch as she singled to score both runners and give Dyer County a 2-0 lead after an inning and a half. Crockett County answered in the bottom of the third with a Leforgee sacrifice fly to cut the Dyer County lead to 2-1 after three innings. The Choctaws answered in the top of the fourth.   Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports A three-run fifth inning proved costly for the Choctaws as South Gibson defeated Dyer County 5-2 in the quarterfinals of the winner’s bracket of the District 13-3A Tournament at Crockett County High School. After a pair of scoreless innings, Dyer County looked to get on the board as Nate Vick singled with one out then Landon Todd added a two-out single. But, after an error put the two freshmen at second and third, Talon Messer was intentionally walked which lead to a force out at second to end the Choctaw threat. The Hornets capitalized in the bottom of the frame with a two-run double by J BATEMAN to take a 2-0 lead after three innings. South Gibson then tacked on three runs in the bottom of the fifth to create plenty of insurance for the Hornets with a 5-0 lead after five. Dyer County did not go down without a fight.   Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports Dyersburg was able to get out in front with a big first inning, but Crockett County was able to chip away and take the lead before having to hold off a seventh-inning Trojan rally to take the District 13-3A Tournament Quarterfinal 7-6 on Thursday evening in Alamo. The Trojans caught a break early on as Evan Thompson reached on an error when a popup was misplayed. Dyersburg took advantage two plays later when Alex Page homered to left to put the black and gold on top by two. A pair of walks were followed by a Brett Horner grounder to third which allowed Ryan Wesson to score. Ethan Austin then reached on an error to plate a run and put Dyersburg on top 4-0 after a half inning. But, back-to-back home runs from Callan Willis and Brady Fronabarger in a span of four pitches cut Dyersburg’s lead in half to 4-2 after one inning.
