  Spring Practice Wrap Up The Tennessee Volunteers engaged in the final controlled scrimmage of the spring on Saturday and once again, the good news is there were no major injuries to key players on the current roster. The defense held a slight edge against the offense during the workouts and the opinion here and among others in the media is that this year's Big Orange defense is going to have some sharp claws and aggressive attitudes. As far as the quarterback battle, nothing was resolved or cemented moving forward. Coach Josh Heupel said as much in his post scrimmage interviews. The competition will continue into the summer and will not be finalized until late August when preparations for the season are at full speed. On Saturday, George MacIntyre completed 15 of 22 passes for 105 yards with most of the throws checkdowns.   Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports Dyersburg Middle scored early in the opening half but Dyer County was able to hold the Trojans there for the rest of the half before a trio of second-half goals by the black and gold clinched the 4-0 victory for DMS on Wednesday evening at J.C. Sawyers Stadium in middle school soccer action. Dyersburg got on the board early in the opening half as Levi Koonce put the Trojans on the board in the fifth minute to give DMS a 1-0 lead. The Trojan defense played well throughout the first half but Dyer County, despite allowing some shots on goal, were able to keep the game at a 1-0 deficit through the first 30 minutes of the game. The Trojans finally added to their lead in the first minutes of the second half. A goal from Thomas Nolan pushed the Dyersburg advantage to 2-0 in the 34th minute.   Jason Peevyhouse Editor, JP Productions Sports After seeing their two-run lead evaporate in the top of the fifth inning and finding themselves trailing heading into the bottom of the frame, Dyer County’s softball team answered with a quick rally aided by a South Gibson miscue to retake the lead on the way to a 4-3 win over the Lady Hornets on Tuesday evening in Newbern. The win came without starting centerfielder and leadoff batter Kierstyn Ray while No. 2-hole hitter Katie Beth Caldwell batted only once before leaving the game with an injury. Dyer County was able to get on the board in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Allie Ables worked an 11-pitch at bat into a double to left. Freshman Kate Benedetto followed with an RBI single to center to plate her and put the Choctaws on top 1-0 after two innings. The Choctaws added to their lead in the bottom of the third. Lake County scored seven times in its half of the seventh before falling to the Tide, 9-8, in non-district action, to fall to 15-5 on the season. After a single from Cade Lanier and A MOLINA was hit by a pitch to open the bottom of the seventh, J CLANTON was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. B JOHNSON singled in a run then R RAGAN cleared the bases with a double to cut the Peabody lead to four runs. H METOYER was intentionally walked to set up a force at first, second and third.
